Almost each and every “get healthy” and “weight loss” document you study will tell you to skip the drive through and make all of your meals yourself. This is really good guidance. Sometimes, though, the last thing you choose is to have to make meals from scratch. Sometimes you just would like to hit the drive through en route to your home and call it a day. There isn’t any reason that you shouldn’t be allowed to do this and not be suffering from guilt about slipping on your diet. This is because a lot of the famous fast food restaurants out there are trying to “healthy up” their menus. Here is the way to eat healthy when you hit the drive through.

Focus on the sides. Not so long ago, the only real side dish item at a fast food restaurant was French fries. Now virtually all of the well-known fast food places have expanded their menus. There are many salads out there now. Chili can be a different choice. Baked potatoes can even be bought. You can get fruit. There are many wholesome options that do not consist of putting something deep fried into your body. When you order your supper through a drive through window, opt for side dishes instead of just grabbing something premade. This makes it possible for you to keep your calorie count low and reduce your fat intake.

Simple sense states that the proper way to lose weight and get healthy is to ban fast food from your diet completely. While, usually, this is a good idea, if you make sensible choices, there is no reason to feel guilty for visiting a drive through one or two times a month. Occasionally, letting someone else cook dinner is just what you require. When you want healthy menu items, you do not have to feel terrible about visiting the drive through.

The ingredients needed to cook DIY Brown Sugar Cinnamon Poptarts:
  1. Take Pastry:
  2. Get 1 store bought pie crust
  3. You need 1/4 cup brown sugar
  4. Take 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  5. You need 1/2 tbsp. all purpose flour
  6. You need 1 large egg
  7. Get 2 tsp. milk
  8. Take Frosting:
  9. Prepare 3/4 cup confectioners sugar
  10. You need 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  11. You need 1 tbsp. milk
  12. Prepare 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
Steps to make DIY Brown Sugar Cinnamon Poptarts:
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. On a lightly floured work surface, roll out the first disc of pie dough (prepackaged crusts normally have 2). Roll out into a thin rectangular shape. Using a pizza cutter, cut a large rectangle out of the middle, then cut that into 6 equally sized squares. Do the same with your 2nd disc of pie dough. You should have 12 equal squares. Place 6 of them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Whisk together the egg and milk and brush that over the dough squares. For the filling, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon and flour in a separate small bowl. Place a tablespoon of sugar mix onto each square and spread to within 1/4 inch of the border of the dough square.
  3. Once you have filling on each of the 6 squares, brush the remaining 6 pastry squares with egg wash and place them on top of the squares with the filling. Place them with the egg wash side down. Use your fingers to pinch and seal around the edges, then go back around them with a fork. Then use the fork (or a toothpick) to prick holes over the top of the pastries. Brush egg wash over the tops.
  4. Bake for about 6 minutes, then rotate the pan and bake an additional 6 minutes or until lightly golden. Once they're done, let them cool on the pan for 5 or so minutes, then carefully transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. Make the frosting by whisking together the confectioners sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and milk. Once the poptarts are cooled, use a spoon to glaze the top of them, leaving space around the edges. Within a few hours, the frosting will harden. Store them in an airtight container. To reheat them, don't put them into a toaster! Just pop them in the microwave for 10-15 seconds.
