- You need 1 lb sweet Italian sausage
- Get 3/4 lb ground beef
- Take 1/2 cup minced onion
- Provide 2 clove crushed garlic
- Get 28 oz can crushed tomato
- Use 12 oz can tomato paste
- Prepare 13 oz can tomato sauce
- Provide 1/2 cup water
- Prepare 2 tbsp white sugar
- Get 1 1/2 tsp dried basil leaves
- Prepare 1/2 tsp fennel seeds
- Get 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- Get 1 tbsp salt
- Prepare 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- Prepare 4 tbsp parsley
- Prepare 12 Lasagna noodles
- You need 16 oz ricotta cheese
- You need 1 egg
- Prepare 1/2 tsp salt
- Get 3/4 lb sliced mozzarella cheese
- Provide 3/4 cup parmesean cheese
Steps to make Lasagna:
- In a pot, cook sausage, ground beef, onion and garlic over medium heat until brown. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce and water. Season with sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, 1 tablespoon salt, pepper and 2 tablespoons parsley. Simmer covered for 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Bring large pot of lightly salted water to boil. Cook Lasagna noodles for 8-10 minutes. Drain and rinse with cold water. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese with the egg, remaining 2 tablespoons parsley and 1/2 tsp salt.
- Preheat oven to 375°F
- To assemble, spread 1.5 cups meat sauce in bottom of 9 x 13 dish. Arrange 6 noodles lengthwise over meat sauce. Spread with 1/2 cup ricotta cheese mixture. Top with 1/3 mozzarella cheese slices. Spoon 1.5 cups meat sauce over mozzarella slices and sprinkle with 1/4 cup parmesean cheese. Repeat layers and top with mozzarella slices and parmesean. Cover with foil. Spray foil with cooking spray or make sure doesn't touch cheese.
- Bake for 25 minutes, remove foil and bake another 25 minutes. Cool for 15 minutes before serving.
